US utility set to launch the largest floating solar array in North America

Aug 25, 2023

NJR Clean Energy Ventures (CEV), the renewable energy subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the progress made on the development of North America's largest floating solar array.

Constructed using an innovative floating racking system, the 8.9MW floating solar plant will turn unutilized space on the Canoe Brook reservoir into a source of clean energy.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the floating solar plant is planned to take place on June 6, 2023.

The innovative project continues CEV's track record of clean energy investments and will provide 95% percent of the power needs for New Jersey American Water's Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant, which produces 14 million gallons of drinking water per day and serves 84,000 customers.

The Canoe Brook project was developed by Solar Renewable Energy (SRE), with RETTEW providing engineering, procurement and construction services. CEV acquired the fully permitted and approved project in the first quarter of fiscal 2022.

The floating solar array features 16,510 solar panels, installed on a water reservoir in Millburn in New Jersey.

The plant at Canoe Brook will add an additional 8.9MW of installed capacity to CEV's existing operating portfolio consisting of nearly 370MW and capable of producing enough clean energy to power over 58,000 homes annually.
